Do your research - Check start times, behaviour policies and the dress code.
Pack your essentials - Be prepared and make sure you pack the essentials, such as pens, stickers, whiteboard markers and have a few backup activities ready too (just in case).
Arrive early - Make sure you arrive early, as this gives you time to settle in, meet key staff and review plans.
Build connections quickly - Introduce yourself to TAs, subject leaders and safeguarding officers.
Be behaviour-ready - Set expectations calmly and consistently from the start and make sure your class know how they can and cannot behave.
Keep lessons moving - Have extra activities ready to maintain momentum and keep your students engaged.
Stay flexible - You may cover new subjects or year groups, so you need to be adaptable and ready for any challenge.
Leave a clear handover - Before you leave the classroom, you should leave a clear handover, so note what was covered and how pupils responded.
